The web is difficult at best.
Communication is a simulation... moderated, asynchronous, mediated, re-presented, devoid of anything but 0s and 1s.
There are no voice inflections.
There are no eyes to meet.
There is no body language.
Even the phrase "lol" is a lie, as there is no volume or implementable concept of a "laugh" so humor is a binary reflex, more like vomiting.
We try to reach out to each other.
There are ways that that is being thwarted, ways that we are being kept from each other (like enforcing loitering laws in a park).
The troll is known to most.
Its role is to distract, divert, deflect, distort, damage, drone, disinform, de[use-]value, [over]dramatize, and damn.
It is not a task that seeks human[e]ness, and there may be a very expository reason why: it's a project of the military-surveillance complex.
How many times has a forum, email list, bulletin board, chat room, or other "social network" had a "big loud fish" in it that acted the narcissist, the bully, the blatant misquoter, the requester of redundancy, the representer of reality, the anti-focus sustainer, etc. The discussion never takes place, and certainly nothing "social" ever takes place... merely banter, arguing, fragmented and frustrated contact?!
Well, here's what happened to the software engineering field that I and my many colleagues got dumped from... aside from creating bill collection, marketing sales, voting tally manipulation, and surveillance software, that is:

Like the latest trap where "social networks" are poised as anything but automated herd managers, we were first baited away from secure forums into surveillance-open email lists. Those have been rescuied so that the "social network" skeptics can milk themselve with simulated-engineered human banter. Banalization fattens the herd. We ponder and argue and go nowhere outside of the "pen". That is called "doing time" in a pen[itentiary]. Nothing social is ever done: no group papers, posters, interventions, meetings. Nada. Nil. The void of pretending to be moving in a helix is really only a circle. Some mught even suggest that with respect to males that it's a "circle jerk". You know, like the male-only "revolutions" in the Arab world that are being funded by those who own (and own those in) the "social network" traps. We have "ghosts in the machine[ations]". The images of dynamics may just be entertainment for those really in charge. We are "gnf" (going n owhere fast) except to the slaughterhouse, and, participating in our own slaughter.
So... it may be that all those bullies, predators, deflectors, diverters, liars, disinformers, and people who ask you to explain something over and over so that you give up, get frustrated, etc. ... real or just REALly effective. Remember, the higher up the pyramid you go, the less people there are to control those below. Now, the numbers have been altered! The falsifiers may actually be fake... just like their "points", "facts", "evidence", and "substance".
Here's to protecting the space we ALL own from Capital's invasives, to inclusively-dialectically embracing critique, and to the acknowledging the characterologically-impossibilized possibility of knowledge and use-value existing 'outside of the ideologically, narcissistically, and malignantly defended. We need ALL of us — past and present — to supersede class society and a system contoured to socio-psychopathy.
It is "on topic" to speak of the dynamics of any group, of ones security within it, and of its claim to authenticity. Elsewise, it is just flypaper within a billboard, an additional pinprick whose cumulative sum kills, a recusrive falsification.
